Austin (KXAN) – It’s a big decision and a popular choice for families who are done having kids. About half a million men undergo the permanent birth control procedure each year.

Dr. Koushik Shaw with the Austin Urology Institute explains that the common surgery doesn’t have to be scary.

Getting a vasectomy does not lower sex drive or cause erectile dysfunction.

The surgery only lasts about 15 minutes.
