AUSTIN (KXAN) — An Austin city councilwoman announced her run for mayor on Saturday.
Mayor Pro Tem Sheryl Cole hinted at a mayoral run for weeks leading up to the announcement.
She made it official Saturday with a campaign kickoff party in Central Austin.
“The big issues facing this city are transportation, affordability and water,” Cole said. “The big question is ‘Are we going to tackle these things together? Can we come together as a city and pass real solutions?’ And I think we can.”
Four other people have announced their run for mayor, including Cole’s fellow council member Mike Martinez.
Austin attorney Steve Adler, businessman Todd Phelps, and tech entrepreneur Randall Stephens are also running.
