SHIZUOKA, Japan (NBC/NTV) — A snail many experts consider one of the world’s most beautiful is on display at a zoo in Japan.
Polymita Picta is referred to more commonly as the “Cuban land snail” or “painted snail.”
It’s known for its shiny and brightly colored shells.
Experts say the popularity of these snails has led their numbers to decrease significantly.
Polymita Picta has been declared a protected species in Cuba.
