Hundreds of potatoes mashed in tractor trailer crash

RICHMOND, Maine (NBC/WNYT) — Potatoes were mashed when a tractor trailer full of potatoes crashed on Interstate 295 in Maine.

The truck was traveling south on I-295 Tuesday night when it went off the median in Richmond.

The truck, which was fully loaded with potatoes, went several hundred feet before striking an embankment.

The impact broke the box portion of the truck, spilling the potatoes.

Truck driver Mark Benoit told troopers he swerved to avoid a moose.

Police said the truck was traveling from northern Maine bound for Connecticut.

The driver is from Massachusetts. He suffered minor injuries to his legs.
