APD: more than 100 no refusal arrests over Memorial Day weekened

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin police arrested 103 people for driving while intoxicated over Memorial Day Weekend, as part of the department’s no refusal initiative.

APD broke down the numbers for their arrests:

  • May 23: 28 people arrested. 13 breath, 10 blood search warrants, 2 blood consent.
  • May 24: 30 people arrested. 20 breath, 10 blood search warrants, 1 blood consent.
  • May 25: 25 people arrested. 11 breath, 13 blood search warrants, 1 blood consent.
  • May 26: 20 people arrested. 8 breath, 10 blood search warrants, 2 blood consent.

Blood Alcohol Content breakdown for those who provided breath samples:

  • Breath BAC < .08 = 4 (1 released and 3 showed sufficient impairment and were charged with Class B Misdemeanor DWI)
  • Breath BAC .08 < .15 = 20
  • Breath BAC .15 < .23 = 17
  • Breath BAC .24 or higher = 1
