Interstate 35 rollover kills one person ejected from car

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A rollover crash on the Interstate 35 service road near U.S. Highway 183 killed a 27-year-old passenger and injured the driver on Monday.

Sarina Gonzales was thrown from a 2006 BMW after it left I-35 and rolled onto the southbound frontage road. She died at the scene.

EMS crews took the man driving the car to University Medical Center Brackenridge with minor injuries.

Police diverted southbound frontage road traffic onto I-35 in the area, which caused heavy traffic delays on the service road and the interstate.

The crash is still being investigated and anyone with information is asked to call the Austin Police Department’s vehicular homicide unit detectives at 512-974-5576.

This was Austin’s 20th deadly traffic crash and the 26th fatality of 2014. At this time in 2013, there were 31 traffic deaths. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
