Teen survives near-drowning in Colorado River

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A 16-year-old boy is lucky to be alive after nearly drowning Sunday afternoon.

Medics were called to Roy Guerrero Park in Southeast Austin at about 4:45 p.m. The park is located along the Colorado River between Pleasant Valley and U.S. 183.

Three Austin Police officers jumped into the water to save the teen. STARFlight was initially called to the scene, but bystanders at the park performed CPR, and the boy came back to life.

He was taken by ambulance to Dell Children’s Medical Center in serious condition and is expected to make a full recovery.
