NASA expects never-before-seen meteor shower this weekend

JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK, Calif. (CNN) — You may want to stay up late Friday night to watch the sky.

NASA is expecting a never-before-seen meteor shower this weekend.

Forecasters say it could rival even the Perseid meteor shower.

This is timelapse footage of that meteor shower last August.

But be prepared because NASA says the new meteor shower could put on a spectacular show, or it could fizzle. Scientists aren’t sure.

It’s expected to peak after midnight Saturday between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. Eastern. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
