Largest ‘no-refusal’ effort kicks off with start of holiday weekend

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Friday was the beginning of the biggest no-refusal weekend ever.

For the first time in Central Texas, 13 agencies will work together to target drunk drivers this Memorial Day weekend.

Austin Police officers set up the blood alcohol testing unit known as the “Bat Bus” at House Park at 15th and Lamar.

This year’s “No Refusal” initiative started at 7:30 p.m. Friday and runs until 5 a.m. Tuesday morning.

No Refusal means if you do not consent to taking a breath or blood test, officers will get a search warrant to draw your blood.
