Kindergarteners lose rabbit in school fire

KERRVILLE, Texas (AP) — A rabbit is the lone casualty of a fire that engulfed part of a Central Texas church school.

Teachers at New Beginnings Church in Kerrville safely evacuated classrooms when a fire broke out Thursday morning. Firefighters put out the blaze, which has spread to two classrooms.

But a rabbit named Cupcake didn’t make it.

Meagan McInnis, daughter of the church’s pastor, told the Kerrville Daily Times that the rabbit belonged to her daughter, but that the school’s kindergarteners were raising it as their own.

Local firefighters are now raising money to get a new rabbit.

Kerrville is 100 miles west of Austin.
