LOS ANGELES (KXAN/NBC) — Donald Sterling has handed over control of the Los Angeles Clippers to his wife, Shelley, who has plans to sell the team.

NBC News confirmed the power shift Friday.

Shelley Sterling has been negotiating with the NBA about her plans to voluntarily sell the team before a June 3 vote by the NBA Owners that could force her husband to sell the franchise.

Donald Sterling was banned for life by the NBA after a recording surfaced of Sterling making racially charged remarks to his girlfriend.
