Firefighter slapped with 60-day suspension for DWI

AUSTIN (KXAN) — An Austin firefighter is off the job until mid-July after being arrested for driving drunk.

Randall Black, 31, was stopped Feb. 4 for speeding along Interstate 35 in Austin. A disciplinary memo says the trooper conducting the stop detected a strong odor of alcohol on Black’s breath.

Part of Black’s 60-day suspension includes completing alcohol abuse counseling and a year’s probation. He’ll also be subject to random alcohol testing when he returns to duty.

Black has been an Austin firefighter since January 2012. City records show he earns $58,000 a year.
