AUSTIN (KXAN) – Detectives are investigating a stabbing and deadly shooting that happened late Tuesday night in Northeast Austin.

Just before 11 p.m., officers were called to the 1100 block of Crown Oak Drive, near East Rundberg Lane.  There, they found a woman stabbed.  EMS rushed her to University Medical Center Brackenridge, where she went through surgery overnight. She was listed in stable condition on Wednesday.

Nearby, investigators found a man dead in a car, from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Austin police said the man and woman were married but had since been divorced. A spokesperson said investigators consider the man a suspect in the stabbing.

“It’s kind of scary because we’ve got children, grand babies,” said neighbor Roberta Johnson. “It happened so close.”

Officers continue to interview witnesses, including a friend of the woman, who made the initial 911 call. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
