AUSTIN (KXAN) — Several people are homeless after a morning fire in Northeast Austin.

The fire started around 1 a.m. at 7107 Carver Avenue.

First responders with the Austin Fire Department said the fire was on the exterior of the building, and they were able to put it out quickly.

People who live in the home say it was a scary situation.

“They were running out the door, I ran out, too,” said Lyndon Constancio. “One roommate crippled, I ran back in, grabbed him, get up, I dragged him up.”

No one was hurt, and the Red Cross is helping those who were displaced.
