AUSTIN (KXAN) — A new expressway opened Saturday for drivers headed east out of Austin toward Manor and North Houston.
The Manor Expressway is be a six-mile toll road, connecting State Highway 130 and Manor to downtown Austin.
“With the opening of SH 130 there are folks from Williamson County, Pflugerville and Georgetown who now have another way of getting into Austin,” said spokesperson Rick L’Amie. “The 290 tollway…will directly connect you to Interstate 35.”
The existing lanes of U.S. 290 will be free for drivers and the new tollway will run parallel to it.
Phase 1 of the project opened in 2013 and included direct ramps to U.S. Highway 183.
The estimated cost of the entire project was $400 million. Funding was provided by state and federal highway funds.
The Manor Expressway will generate about 2,000 jobs through the economic development it’s expected to generate.
