ERIE, Penn. (NBC/WICU) — A young Pennsylvania girl who was hit by a car speeding away from police says she is now scared of cars.
The 8-year-old was riding her scooter on the sidewalk when a suspect’s car chased by police crashed into her.
The whole incident was captured on security video.
What started out as a typical Friday night for Cassidy Wall and her little sister Zmyiah quickly took a drastic turn.
“Right now, I’m scared of cars because of what happened to me on Friday night,” said Cassidy.
The dramatic video surfaced soon after the incident.
Cassidy was on her scooter just outside of her home on 29th and German streets when a car speeding away from police hit a parked car, which then crashed into her and sent her flying.
“I fell and flew in the air, and I landed on my head,” said Cassidy.
If you look closely, you’ll notice 5-year-old Zmyiah on the steps is able to get out of the way just in time.
If she would have been on the ground a second earlier, she would have been hit by the car as well.
“The car crashed in, and then she got hit,” said Zmyiah. “And she flew all the way up in the sky and fell on her head.”
Cassidy suffered a concussion in the crash, while her little sister some bumps and bruises. But the entire family is traumatized by the incident.
“I was terrified. I still am terrified,” said Delorean Wall, Cassidy’s dad. “As a father, you don’t want that to happen to your children. It’s crazy.”
“When I saw the video — everything I thought about it — I started crying … because it hurt my feelings, and I didn’t like what I saw,” said Cassidy.
And while these two girls are shaken up by this incident, Delorean says he knows things could’ve panned out differently.
“It could have happened to anybody’s kids, and it could have been worse,” said Delorean. “So all I can tell people is just to watch your kids.”
It’s a fortunate outcome to a potentially deadly situation.
Meanwhile, two men have been charged in connection to this crash.
Angelo Moore, 18, faces a number of charges, including attempting to elude police and aggravated assault by vehicle — along with possession of marijuana.
Brandon Carlson faces drug and weapons charges.
