Red-light cam catches motorcycle crash with van

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS, Mo. (CNN/KCTV) — Excelsior Springs, Mo., police have released some intense video of a motorcycle and van colliding.

The biker got up after the big impact, which sent a shoe flying.

He says the van driver didn’t yield on a green light.

“I hit and then went numb for a second, and then I started to feel pain,” said 20-year-old Britt Hamilton.

Hamilton says he hit his brakes but that it was too late.

“I had a green light, and watching, you can just see how bad it is,” said Hamilton.

Watching this video released by Excelsior Springs police, you can see the moment of the intense impact. Hamilton’s shoe goes flying off his foot as he flies off his bike.

He shows us he’s got his shoe back.

“I’ve only got one pair of shoes,” said Hamilton.

Incredibly, he’s back on his feet and back to work.

“My wrist is swollen a little bit, and my lip is a little messed up,” said Hamilton. “I got a little knot on my leg.”

The bike looks OK, but Britt says it’s pretty messed up.

“It pushed the gas tank into the seat right here,” said Hamilton.

In the crash video, you’ll also notice Hamilton’s helmet.

“Always had a helmet,” said Hamilton.

What you can’t see is Hamilton’s fiancée, Brittany, and his 10-month-old baby girl Peyton — in the car right behind him.

“Something I never want to witness again,” said Brittany.

Seeing this play out, the couple knows it could have been so much worse.

“Just a scary thought knowing I could have lost him,” said Brittany.

“Yeah it could have been a lot worse,” said Hamilton.
