Armored truck robbed outside Southeast Austin bank

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Police are on the look out for four men following a robbery of an armored car guard just outside of a Southeast Austin bank Wednesday morning.

Police were called to the Wells Fargo Bank at 2028 East Ben White Blvd., near the intersection of Woodward St. and Ben White Blvd, following the hold up.

The first calls came into police at 8:58 a.m. when the Brinks security guard was leaving the building, headed towards his truck when, according to police, three men knocked him down and took his satchel of money.

Three of the men then jumped into a car and drove away. They were followed by the fourth man in a pickup truck. That truck was later found on Parker Lane and the police were able to identify it as a stolen vehicle.

One of the suspects was armed with a handgun. Police say one of the Brinks employees was also armed, though no shots were fired during the incident.

Authorities are calling the incident an aggravated robbery since it occurred in the lobby of the building, and not inside the bank.
