PFLUGERVILLE, Texas (KXAN) — The City of Pflugerville is celebrating an everyday hero.
May 14 was named ‘Mr. Max Day’ in honor of Max Poss. He’s a longtime crossing guard who works near Murchison Elementary, Kelly Lane Middle School and Hendrickson High School.
Students on Wednesday made signs and put up balloons at the intersection of Kelly Lane and Kennemer Drive. They even decorated Mr. Max’s house.
“I feel blessed to live in this community,” Poss said. “It’s like a big small town, or a small big town, but it has those old town values. Everybody cares about each other.”
Mr. Max has made sure students and their parents cross Kelly Lane safely since 2006.
“I’ve seen him blow his whistle and call people out,” said Candace Anderson, Pflugerville parent. “He just keeps us safe. We feel much better when he’s here. Mr. Max has dedicated his entire life to serving. In the summer, he’s a lifeguard. During the school year he is the crossing guard and he is veteran.”
Construction in the area means Mr. Max is even more vigilant. It’s something the community appreciates.
“He’s very friendly,” said Bobbi Douglas. “He feels like part of the family. Even if you don’t really know him too well, he treats everyone the same. He’s really a good person.”
Mr. Max said he has no plans for retirement.
“I’m going to do this as long as my legs hold out.”
