AUSTIN (KXAN) — Storms this week caused construction delays at Barton Springs pool.

Crews are working to remove utility poles near the pool that have deteriorated over the years. Because of their proximity to the water, patrons are not being allowed in during the work.

The new poles will be more durable and have an average lifespan of 40-50 years. New lighting being installed will better illuminate the pool surface for staff to see swimmers.

The pool is expected to resume its normal hours on May 17.
