ROUND ROCK (KXAN) — Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst and his GOP challenger state Sen. Dan Patrick were set to meet for a forum Monday, but organizers say Patrick’s wife got sick on the way to the event.
“We [hope Patrick's wife] is well and healthy… but that means Dan Patrick will not be here,” said Elexis Grimes with Williamson County Republican Women. “We were trying to have a different take on the candidate forum and get to know the men behind the politician in a relaxed, casual debate.”
Williamson County Republican Women hosted the forum. Dewhurst answered questions Monday.
“Dan and I will go head-to-head on a lot of different issues, but family comes first and I hope that [his wife] has a speedy recovery,” said Dewhurst.
Patrick, a radio show host in Houston and state senator, received more than 40-percent of the vote in the March GOP primaries, finishing more than 13-points ahead of incumbent Dewhurst.
The two will face each other on May 27 in a runoff election for the Republican nomination for lieutenant governor.
Dewhurst is trying to keep the office he’s held since 2003.
The winner of the election will go up against Democratic state Sen. Leticia Van de Putte.
