City water work set of a series of fire alarms in Northwest Austin early Friday morning.

As Austin Water Utility worked on the Jollyville Reservoir at Spicewood Springs and 183, workers had to shut down a water pump for a while.  That triggered more than eight water flow alarm activations in the Lakeline Mall area, prompting response from Austin firefighters.

Austin Water Utility spokesman Jason Hill said there was plenty of water stored up to flow in case of a fire, so there was never any danger to residences or mall businesses.  He said the alarms were probably just overly sensitive to the change.
