DRIPPING SPRINGS, Texas (KXAN) — A pair of fuzzy owlets is making their mark in Dripping Springs – at least to one excited family.

Our Dawn Denny shared the photos, though her daughter Grace did all the photography work! Brave Grace got up there to snap a picture of the two screech owls that hatched in their owl house.

And while getting the perfect shot took some mastery – sneaking up the corner of the phone in the box’s hole to snap the picture – it wasn’t quite clear what pictures they’d gotten until they looked back at their camera roll.

I’m glad Mama Owl didn’t take offense and get too protective with her razor-sharp claws.

The family just got the owl box in February, excited now to call it a real “home.”

Dawn’s owl box isn’t the only one home to new guests; Abby Satori sent in pictures via our ReportIt feature of owlets in her Southwest Austin owl box.

The Austin area’s been abuzz with critters popping up and buzzing about — where it’s birdies, and bunnies, and snakes!
