More red-light cameras proposed for several intersections

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The City of Austin is currently doing engineering assessments for two new red light camera locations.

They would be at eastbound Lakeline Boulevard at the northbound U.S. 183 service road, and westbound Braker Lane at the southbound Interstate 35 service road.

Another six locations are under consideration. But because of a reduction in crashes during the period of crash analysis, the city will be reviewing additional data for the first six months of 2014 to see if this reduction in crashes is consistent.

The city is also proposing two cameras be removed. Those at the northbound and southbound MoPac service roads at Wells Branch Parkway and Howard Lane. These cameras were installed prior to the construction of the MoPac Expressway toll road.

The city has 10 cameras now, first installed in late 2008. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
