NEAR CHICAGO, Ill. (NBC/WMAQ) – Rush hour traffic came to a slow crawl near Chicago as a family of Canada geese made their way down the interstate.
Police had to close Interstate 80/94 briefly to guide the geese into the right lane Tuesday afternoon.
The two adult geese, along with their five goslings, didn’t seem to notice the hundreds of cars and tractor trailers driving past them.
A special police escort followed closely behind the geese to make sure they didn’t stray into traffic.
The goslings avoided several close calls as they waddled along the shoulder, even crossing the Illinois state line.
And finally: a happy ending to this unusual journey.
The geese were guided off the highway and into an adjoining neighborhood where they appeared to be enjoying their new, safe surroundings.
