Motorcyclists honor fallen officers

AUSTIN (KXAN) – Hundreds of motorcyclists rode down I-35 to the Capitol Saturday in honor of police officers killed in the line of duty.

About 400 motorcycles made the 22 mile trip from Round Rock. They rode to the Texas Peace Officers Memorial Monument on the north Capitol grounds.

The ride raises funds for the Peace Officers Memorial Foundation, which provides financial assistance and college scholarships for the families of fallen officers.

Participants included officers from across Texas.

“I don’t know any of them personally,” Deputy Mike Hargis with the Tarrant County Constable’s Office said. “But, we all share a brotherhood and the job that we do, and we just came to show our respect and appreciation for those guys.”

The 13-year-old event continues to grow and officers say 2014 was the largest turnout they have seen yet. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
