Dog dumped on side of road recovering at shelter

Williamson County sheriff's office looking for suspect

GEORGETOWN, Texas (KXAN) — The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a disturbing case of animal abuse after a dog was found in a trash bag dumped on the side of the road near Leander.

Julie, a 7-year-old chocolate lab, is now in good hands with the staff at the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter. But just two days ago she was fighting for her life after being found near County Road 175 and Farm to Market 2243.

“She had a bag, it was described as a plastic trash bag, around her head and body,” said Misty Valenta, a worker at the shelter. “She was not placed there accidentally.”

Julie was covered in tumors and it appeared she may have been shot in the hip, workers at the shelter said.

“Our vet tech found a wound on the back of her head,” added Valenta, “and it went down almost to her skull.”

Animal control officers think Julie’s injuries were deliberate and believe someone in the area knows more about what happened.

“Our main concern is that we can make (Julie) feel better and that we can save her life,” Valenta said.

Step two is finding her a home.

“When she is healthy enough,” said Valenta. “She’s going to have surgery to remove her tumors and then she will be available for adoption.”
