Barricaded man prompts SWAT to return to Bastrop County home

BASTROP COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — SWAT officers in Bastrop County returned to a home Tuesday in an attempt to arrest a man who had barricaded himself on the property.

Beau Awtrey, 26, was on the 7-acre property in the 100 block of Rabbit Trail with family members on Monday when he grabbed a shotgun and told everyone to leave. The family members left and called police about 7:30 p.m.

Authorities say Awtrey has a history of mental illness.

SWAT was called to the scene Monday, but because the land had several thick bushes and multiple outbuildings, and Awtrey was no longer threatening anyone, officers backed off.

Officers returned Tuesday with an arrest warrant for felony possession of a firearm, but Awtrey refused to come out, police say.

He surrendered to officers about 4:30 p.m. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
