TRAVIS COUNTY (KXAN) — A teen killed after his canoe flipped on Lake Travis Saturday attended Lago Vista High School, school officials said.

Lago Vista ISD Superintendent Matt Underwood said the boy was a sophomore at the school. He was not able to release the victim’s name.

“Lago Vista ISD would like to thank Leander ISD for providing a team of experienced grief counselors that will be available on campus Monday morning for students and staff that need emotional support,” Underwood said.

After a search by STARFlight rescuers, Austin-Travis County EMS medics, Texas Search and Rescue volunteers and Travis County recovery swimmers, the teen’s body was found near Pace Bend Park at about 1 p.m. Sunday.

They found him 40- to 50 feet off-shore in an area of water 10 feet deep.

The victim’s canoe overturned on Lake Travis Saturday evening. Medics originally believed the male victim was submerged in an area with water 30-feet deep.

STARFlight rescue swimmers located the canoe Saturday night and spent about 45-minutes searching for the victim before the operation transitioned to recovery mode.
