PFLUGERVILLE (KXAN) — More than 25,000 Central Texans lost power for as long as an hour Sunday evening.

The outage, which affected Oncor customers, originally stretched from Pflugerville north on SH 130 to Hutto. As many as 25,000 people were without power in Pflugerville and more than 6,000 lost electric service in Hutto.

Oncor officials said the outage was caused by equipment failure at their Pflugerville substation. A company spokesperson said a lightning arrester malfunctioned shortly before 5 p.m. Sunday, causing the disruption. The device is used to protect electrical lines from lightning.

Pflugerville police said traffic lights were out at many intersections and asked drivers to treat those areas as four-way stops.
