AUSTIN (KXAN)- Austin Police say a person they suspect was driving while intoxicated killed a pedestrian early Saturday morning.

It happened just after 1:00a.m. on the northbound side of the I-35 frontage road near East 8th Street.

Police said the driver was pulling out of the nearby Wendy’s parking lot when they hit the pedestrian.

Paramedics rushed the person to nearby UMC Brackenridge where they were pronounced dead.

The driver stayed at the scene and was arrested with a DWI charge.

While officers were handling the arrest, another suspected drunk driver attempted to drive through the crime scene. The officers were forced to jump to avoid getting hit.
