Teenage girl struck and killed by train in South Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A teenage girl is dead after being struck by a train in south Austin on Friday evening, according to the Austin-Travis County EMS.

According to Austin police, the crash happened around 6:45 p.m. on the track near West Dittmar Road and Manchaca Road.

A train conductor called and said his train struck someone who was trespassing on the track.

When emergency crews arrived at the scene, they weren’t able to immediately find the victim. According to the Austin-Travis County EMS, the body was found 45 minutes later about 1/4 mile from the back of the train.

Authorities are still trying to determine why she was on the train tracks at the time of the crash.
