AUSTIN (KXAN) — A woman is in the hospital after a steel beam fell on her while she was working on a construction project at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.

Emergency medical personnel transported the 49-year-old woman to University Medical Center Brackenridge after they received a call that a 3,000-pound steel beam fell on her legs. When EMS arrived at the airport the beam had already been removed from her legs but there was “obvious” injury, according to the medics that transported her to the hospital. Her injuries are not life-threatening.

The woman was working on the East terminal infill project at ABIA. This project will connect the east ticket lobby to the concourse at Gate 5 and includes a new passenger security screening checkpoint with 10 lanes and a larger customs area. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
