Austin comedian back on stage after attack

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin comedian Kat Ramzinski is recovering after she says she was beaten and robbed Sunday.

Kat prepared to perform Wednesday at the Moontower Comedy & Oddity Festival, despite the attack.

“I’m just going to try really hard not to cry and try to be funny and strong and a role model,” said Kat.

After her show, Kat planned to hand out pepper spray to members of the crowd.

Kat says she was walking home on Susquehanna Lane from the HEB grocery store near Ed Bluestein Boulevard Sunday night. That’s when she says a light silver van pulled up. She says about four people got out and a woman approached her.

“(The woman) got really close and like arched her neck in and looked at me and just started ripping my clothes off,” Kat said.

She says the woman slashed her fingers, three other men joined in. They punched her in the face and stole her purse.

Comics and friends started raising money to help Kat with her medical bills. She says her eye will need surgery.

“Any money left over we’re going to try to donate to Resist Attack or SafePlace or something like that,” Kat said.

Kat says she also got help from one of her doctors who waived his fees after the mugging.

Austin police have a detective assigned to the case. Investigators believe the attack was random.

Kat says police are supposed to start working on sketches of the suspects Thursday morning.
