‘Smack cam’ prank at local Wendy’s could lead to assault charges

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin police are investigating a “smack cam” case in which a teenage boy hit a 16-year-old girl in the face – all in the name of a YouTube video.

The girl, Calaybra Jones, is a cashier at a local Wendy’s. She said before the smack, the boy seemed uneasy.

“I am embarrassed,” Jones said. “The boy came in and then left. Then, he came back in and acted like he couldn’t make up his mind. I saw his friend standing with his phone but I didn’t know he was recording me at that time.”

” I’m sad,” said Calaybra.  “I’m angry. It’s just shocking that they would do that to someone that they don’t even know.”

The video shows the young boy then hit Calaybra across her face and run out. Both boys were laughing as they left and jumped into a white car driven by a woman they called C.B.

Carlisha Jones, Calaybra’s mother, said she is appalled that the woman in the video would encourage children to act this way, and hopes the adult faces charges, as well as the teen who assaulted her daughter.  “I am so outraged that I believe the words I would choose would not be choice words, to be honest.”

Police say the case is listed as assault by contact, but they are still investigating and have not determined who will be charged.

The video was posted to YouTube by an account associated with Austin rapper Kade Fresco, but Fresco has not responded to KXAN’s request for an interview at this time.
