SWAT officers force way into San Marcos hotel to remove unruly guest

SAN MARCOS, Texas (KXAN) — SWAT officers forced their way into a room at the Comfort Suites in San Marcos after an unruly guest barricaded himself in a room on Tuesday, police said.

Hotel management called officers about 8 a.m. and said Reggie David Vine, 32, had caused extensive damage to a room at the building, located on the northbound side of Interstate 35 near Guadalupe Street.

Officers arrived to find the Canyon Lake man barricaded in a different room. SWAT members and a Hays County Crisis Negotiation team were called in about 9:30 a.m. The hotel was then evacuated and nearby businesses were notified of the situation.

After Vine broke off communications with negotiators, SWAT members made their move shortly after 1 p.m.

Police say they found ammunition in the damaged room but did not know if Vine was armed.

Vine suffered minor injures during the incident. He is charged with a probation violation on an original charge of felony evading arrest out of Tarrant County and criminal mischief under $20,000 for damage to the hotel rooms.
