KXAN (AUSTIN) — A man suspected of robbing a bank last week was arrested in the parking lot of a Central Market in South Austin after several witnesses said they saw him attempt to steal a vehicle.

One of the witnesses said they heard a woman screaming and struggling with a man next to her brown Chevy SUV at approximately noon Monday. Undercover Austin police officers were on scene quickly and arrested the man at gunpoint, according to witnesses.

Police say the woman was treated for a cut on her finger and transported by ambulance to a South Austin hospital. The suspect was also transported by medics, though he suffered no apparent injury.

Authorities later said the man was connected to a bank robbery last week at the First Lockhart National Bank at 319 W. Slaughter Lane. Police said the man was driving a vehicle that had earlier been reported stolen. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
