Wayward sea lion’s 100-mile journey ends in ranch

CALIFORNIA (CNN/The Marine Mammal Center) — How’s this for adventurous? A sea lion journeyed up a California river until he found himself a good 100-mile drive from the Pacific Ocean.

The pup nicknamed “Hoppie” ended up in an almond orchard on a Modesto ranch late last month.

Wildlife officials were called in and trapped the sea lion with the help of ranch hands.

Hoppie is now being nursed back to health at the Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito.

He was underweight and malnourished when he arrived there but is now eating well and gaining strength.
