Mixed-use project will replace shopping center on Lamar

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Highland Resources announced plans for a four-story mixed-use redevelopment project on the corner of 38th Street and North Lamar Boulevard, where the Lamar Village Shopping Center currently stands.

The vice president of Highland Resources said they’ve been waiting more than 30 years to redevelop this property into something that’s “forward-looking” and “cutting-edge.” The new project, Lamar Central, will feature more than 128,000 square-feet of column-free space with an additional 34,000 square-foot space for retail and restaurant space. The additional amenities will include a parking garage, floor to ceiling windows and a courtyard among other things.

Demolition on Lamar Village Shopping Center will begin summer 2014, and Highland Resources executives expect the project will be completed at the end of 2015.
