Aerial view shows new look at planned UT medical school

AUSTIN (KXAN) — We’re getting our first look at computer renderings of the new teaching hospital planned to be built near downtown Austin.

It’s all tied to the Red River Street project. Work will last until the end of the year on that stretch of road between 15th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

That will pave the way to build the Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas near 15th and Red River.

The hospital would be built on land that is currently home to Centennial Park, right across the street from the Erwin Center. Seton would run the hospital. It’s scheduled to be open in 2017.

The University of Texas plans to build a research facility near the hospital on the other side of Waller Creek. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
