ROUND ROCK, Texas (KXAN) — Police responded to a Round Rock park after concerns that a dead fetus had been discovered in a box buried there. Authorities later said the remains belonged to a puppy.

A girl playing at Meadow Lake Park on Wednesday about 4 p.m., found a metal box partially buried and told her dad about it, police say. Thinking it was a tackle box, the dad opened it and found what he believed to to be a fetus wrapped in dark plastic, authorities said.

Police say the contents were decomposed and not easily recognizable. They determined shortly before 6 p.m. the remains were that of a puppy. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
