TOWSON, Md. (KXAN) — A 19-year-old college student from Austin was died after being struck by an accused drunken driver while trying to cross the road.

Matthew Gabriel, a 2012 graduate of Westlake High School, was attending Goucher College in Towson, Md.

Police say Gabriel was not in a crosswalk when he was hit by a 2013 Mazda3 on Monday about 1:44 a.m.

The driver of the Mazda, 23-year-old Kayla Wiseman, left the scene of the crash. She was later charged on citations of hit-and-run and driving under the influence.

Gabriel was taken to the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma where he died Tuesday morning, Baltimore County police said.
