Girl found safe near border after being abducted by father’s friend

MAGNOLIA, Texas (KXAN/CNN) — A missing girl who had been abducted by her father’s friend near Houston has been found unharmed in the Rio Grande Valley.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office reported that 14-year-old Elizabeth Rex was last seen in the Houston suburb of Magnolia on Monday.

Authorities issued an Amber Alert for the 14-year-old girl who was diagnosed with autism, Down Syndrome and other health conditions.

Investigators believe Rex was taken by 51-year-old Randy Johnson, a man who worked with the child’s father.
Johnson’s last known address was reported to be in Harlingen.

Investigators told Action 4 News that both Rex and Johnson were found at a trailer park in Harlingen.

Rex appeared to be unharmed but was taken to a local hospital for evaluation while Johnson was arrested on kidnapping charges.
Family members said Rex is 14 years old but has the mind of a 5 to 6-year-old child.
