Lightning strike sparks North Austin house fire

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin police discovered a house fire while they were patrolling the area on Monday.

APD discovered heavy fire in the attic of the duplex at 10708 Topperwein Drive. The blaze was sparked by lightning, fire investigators said.

Austin fire crews arrived on the scene at 11:46 a.m. and were able to get the fire under control. Authorities said the duplex was not occupied at the time of the fire and no one was injured.

The fire caused about $125,000 in damages.
