AUSTIN (KXAN) — More than 13,000 cyclists made their way into Austin Sunday, raising money to fight a devastating disease.

Riders in the BP MS 150 finished their weekend trek from Houston at the State Capitol Sunday.

The ride, which was in its 30th year, raises money to fight Multiple Sclerosis.

“After you’ve done a hundred miles… 150 miles, you’re exhausted,” cyclist Rachelle Simmons said. “You’re tired, but you think about your cousin… my cousin… who died from MS complications, and you keep going for the end so they can raise money for research”

“It’s so important to have money for research,” Simmons said. “And I know my cousin is looking down at me and is so proud of me.”

Several current and former members of the Austin Police Department also made the ride. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
