Former Marine sentenced to 30 years for murdering his girlfriend

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A 28-year-old former Marine was found guilty and sentenced to 30 years on Friday afternoon for the murder of his girlfriend in December 2012.

According to Austin police, Ryan Clarke, stabbed Cassandra Clark, 26, to death at the Lantana Ridge Apartments in South Austin.

An arrest warrant for Clarke revealed that Clarke told a hospital social worker he had injured someone at an apartment complex on West William Cannon in South Austin. When Austin police arrived at the apartment, they found Clark dead in the bedroom.

Cassandra worked as a student financial aid officer in the MBA Program Office at the McCombs School of Business.

While a jury found Clarke guilty, Clarke decided to forgo a jury sentencing and let the 167th District Court Judge David Walhberg sentence him.
