Road closures still in place after morning water main break

AUSTIN (KXAN) – FM 2222 remains closed between Balcones Drive and Parkcrest Drive. Drivers will be able to turn onto 2222 from Balcones Drive to get to MoPac.

This reduces the closure to one block, which earlier Wednesday morning spanned from Parkcrest Drive to the southbound MoPac service road. The closure was caused due to an overnight water main break that flooded the road, causing three sections of pavement to partially cave in at FM 2222 between Balcones and Parkcrest Drives.

The 20-inch water main broke in the 3400 block of Northland Drive, just west of MoPac.

Austin Water Utility is on scene working to repair the water main break.  There is concern that some of the soil underneath the roadway may have been washed away, making the road unstable for traffic.

Because this may take several hours to fix, there is no estimated time on when the road will reopen. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
