AUSTIN (KXAN) — Nathan Thornhill pitched eight shutout innings, leading Texas to a 4-0 victory over Baylor Sunday at Disch-Falk Field. The win completed a series sweep for the Longhorns, the first sweep of a conference opponent since taking all three games from Oklahoma in 2012.
Thornhill – a senior from Cedar Park – gave up two hits in eight innings and faced only two batters over the minimum to earn the win, improving his record to 5-0.
The Texas offense was held without a hit until Kacy Clemens led off the fifth inning with an infield single. After Zane Gurwitz moved Clemens to second base with a sacrifice bunt, Brooks Marlow drove him in with a single to make it 1-0.
Texas added three more runs in the seventh inning. Baylor elected to intentionally walk Mark Payton and Tres Barrera followed with a bases loaded double to make it 3-0.
Payton extended his nation’s best on-base streak to 72 games.
Texas hosts Rice Tuesday. UT is 2-0 this season against the Owls, with a pair of wins in Houston.
