Three pedestrians were taken to UMC Brackenridge Saturday night after they were hit by a vehicle downtown. The driver was arrested for three counts of Failure to Stop and Render Aid and one count of Driving While Intoxicated, police said.

One person was seriously injured, and two others suffered minor injuries, police said. Austin-Travis County EMS issued trauma alerts for each of the three patients.

Austin police say the preliminary investigation shows the driver ran their truck on to the sidewalk and hit the pedestrians in front of 98 San Jacinto, near Cesar Chavez, shortly before 9:30 p.m.

The suspect attempted to flee the scene, but was stopped at I-35 and Cesar Chavez and taken into custody, police said

Officers told KXAN they were able to block the man’s car at a red light as he tried to get away.
