Two loggerhead turtles return to open water

CHARLESTON, S.C. (CNN) — Two loggerhead turtles are back to swimming in the Atlantic Ocean after spending time at the South Carolina Aquarium.

“Miss Royal” and “Nud” were brought to the Aquarium’s Sea Turtle Rescue Program last June because of medical problems.

Miss Royal is 215 pounds and was picked up off Beaufort County with a propeller wound to her shell and right rear flipper.

Nud, weighing just more than 70 pounds, was found stranded in Georgetown County suffering from a skin infection.

Both turtles were released a few hours away from the Charleston coast at the Gulf Stream. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
